Make the Most of Summer in Philadelphia

The sun is shining, the grass is growing and the Phils are back at the stadium—summer in the city is finally almost here! Even if you want to be a bit more cautious and a bit less social this summer, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy all that Philly has to offer in the summer. From thirst-quenching water ice to the area’s best summer apparel shops to mouthwatering margaritas, you can find lots of great ways to cool down, chill out and soak up the sun right near your 1500 Locust apartment.

One way to welcome summer is at Parks on Tap. In past years, the event was the city’s premiere traveling beer garden; given the pandemic, the garden will be stationary this year—as well as offer loads of precautions—but you can still find the same great brews, bites and views of the city.

Parks on Tap is taking up residence outside the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center Arboretum, located 15 minutes from your 1500 Locust apartment, and is open Wednesday through Sunday, with extended hours on the weekends. The garden offers spectacular views of and the chance to explore the Horticulture Center, a modern exhibition hall and greenhouse, featuring fountains, sculptures and expertly crafted floral displays. It is also within walking distance of the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, a recreated Japanese tea house brimming with beautiful blooms and ponds.

When you’ve taken in the summer sights and smells in the area, pull up a hammock, picnic table or comfy chair at the garden to safely socialize with friends, old and new. This year, masks are required for all guests unless they are seated and they are asked to observe social distancing markers. Tables can only accommodate up to six people, and all guests will be asked to share contact information for potential contact tracing.

On the menu, visitors can enjoy snacks like chicken skewers and jalapeno popper dip, a variety of sandwiches and platters of brisket and pulled pork, smoked right on site. Enjoy a selection of 15 different beers, including one brewed just for Parks on Tap, as well as summer cocktails and wine.

This summer, throw on the shades, break out the flip flops and get ready to enjoy the soak in summer fun in the city.
