Here’s How to Mark Earth Day 2021 in Rittenhouse Square

Every April, people around the globe come together to do their part to promote environmental sustainability. Earth Day, held this year on April 22, is an opportunity to take actions, big or small, that can help increase awareness about eco-friendliness and demonstrate a commitment to living these principles throughout the rest of the year. While large-scale community clean-ups, planting events and educational seminars are mostly sidelined this year out of safety, there are still ways you can show your appreciation for Mother Earth, all without barely leaving your 1500 Locust apartment.

The Run for Clean Air is one of the region’s largest Earth Day celebrations. Now in its 40th year, the race raises funds for the Clean Air Council, which stages educational programs, advocates for policies and mobilizes supporters around environmental causes. For the second year in a row, the charity race is being held virtually, giving you the opportunity to support the organization all during your normal workouts near your 1500 Locust apartment.

Here’s how it works: Interested runners register online ahead of the April 17 raceday and can get a T-shirt and other swag mailed to you or you can pick it up safely at the organization’s Rittenhouse Square office, just blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment. Pound the pavement to start practicing and post your progress on social media, a great way to encourage others to also support the cause. And then on raceday, track your run time through your favorite workout app and submit it through the race website; runners can track their standings that day through a live results broadcast. While supporting this worthy cause is reason enough to participate, all finishers will also get a Bluetooth speaker in place of a medal!

This Earth Day, take the time to give back to those working to make our community a cleaner and greener place!
