Cinco de Mayo is typically a time for
festive fun, full of tacos and tequilas and lots of celebrating. However, the
last few months have been hard on everyone, and celebrating may be the last
thing on most people’s minds. But, the occasion only comes around once a year,
so why not still pay tribute in a low-key way, all without leaving your 1500
Food is a staple of any Cinco de Mayo
outing—and it can still be the primary focus this year, as many local Mexican
eateries are offering take-out and delivery. Jose Pistola’s, just one block
from your 1500 Locust apartment, is a longtime favorite for Cinco de Mayo
celebrations. While the bar and restaurant are known for their laidback
simplicity, you can have all of that delivered right to your door this year (or
even swing by for curbside pickup).
Jose Pistola’s promises a “simple menu
for a simple time,” and while the menu is concise, it’s nowhere near ordinary!
Tacos are, of course, a main feature, with orders of two that come in varieties
like chicken tinga, mahi mahi and Brussels sprout leaf. Nachos are piled high
with cheese, beans, spices, onions and can be topped with chicken or spicy
pork. If you want to go the route of shareable apps, opt for the wings,
enchiladas or guac and chips. Or, if you’re bringing your appetite, go with the
generously sized burritos, which are stuffed with options like kobe beef,
veggies, fish, pork, chicken and more. Round out your meal with spicy corn on
the cob or beans and rice, and finish it off with churros and you’re all set.
As an added plus, Jose Pistola’s sells six-packs to go, so you can grab your
favorite brew to wash down all of your spicy selections!
Cinco de Mayo may feel a bit different
this year, but it’s still a time to celebrate culture, family and, of course,
