How to Get in on the Army/Navy Fun

The famed Army/Navy game returns to Philadelphia this month—and all the action is just minutes from your 1500 Locust apartment! For more than 100 years, the football teams of the two branches of the military have gone head to head in a major showdown for some serious bragging rights, bringing together thousands of football fans and military supporters for a full weekend of festive rivalry.

The college football teams—West Point’s Black Knights and Annapolis’ Midshipmen—are historic rivals, with the Army taking the prize last year in the game, which is always the final one of the season for both teams. This year’s matchup is set for Dec. 14 at the Linc, just a 10-minute ride from Center City on the Broad Street Subway, which has a stop right around the corner from your 1500 Locust apartment. Head down early to get in some tailgating, which is always a fun way to get pumped for the game and connect with other fans and military folks.

Even if you don’t snag tickets to the game, and decide to watch it from the comfort of your 1500 Locust apartment, you can still get in the spirit with a weekend full of events leading up to the game. The Patriot Games take over Center City and other spots throughout Philly all weekend, pitting Army and Navy servicemembers against one another in mental and physical challenges, all of which are open to the public. The games always attract big crowds of vets and those with military blood in their family, as well as locals looking for exciting spectator sports—whichever group you fit in, don the colors of the branch you’re supporting and head out to cheer on your favorites!
