If you need an excuse to go to the movies, we’ve got 11 days
full of them! The Philadelphia Film Festival, one of the largest and
longest-running cinematic showcases on the East Coast, returns this month for a
week-and-a-half of events highlighting the best of the best of new films. While
the exciting titles are enough to make cinema lovers’ mouth water with the
thought of all that buttered popcorn that awaits, even better is the fact that

The festival is set for Oct. 17-27, hosted by the
Philadelphia Film Society. Throughout the series, organizers will screen 110
films, which typically draw more than 25,000 spectators, along with an
impressive collection of award-winning filmmakers, actors and critics. The
films represent a wide range of genres, interests and styles, as everything
from blockbuster hits to small independent films are highlighted. This year’s
lineup features documentaries, short films, features and even a collection of works
made by Philly area artists.
While the movies themselves offer plenty of reason to turn
out, the accompanying social events are also a big draw! Organizers stage
opening- and closing-night parties, where filmgoers can mix and mingle with the
city’s cinema scene, including many filmmakers whose movies are on display in
the festival. Expect live performances, along with food and drinks from
