Where to Picnic in Philly

Despite the warm weather, the hustle and bustle of city living hasn’t slowed. However, the end of the summer will be here before we know it, which means we should pump the brakes on our busy lives and get out and about to enjoy the sunshine! Luckily, there are lots of ways to do that near your 1500 Locust apartment: rooftop bars, summer festivals and even outdoor exercise classes. If you’re trying to keep it simple (and free), break out the picnic basket and grab some grub, a blanket and your favorite people and head to your nearest green space for a day of soaking up rays with some good food and company.

Center City is filled with lots of green spaces—from quaint and charming historic squares to some of the region’s most famous public areas. Rittenhouse Square Park checks both of those boxes—and offers more to look at than just about any other park in the city!

Located just two blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment, Rittenhouse is a convenient spot for a relaxing afternoon—without barely any travel time taking up your fun. Rittenhouse is steeped in history, as one of the original parks originally conceived of by Philadelphia’s founder, William Penn, in the 1600s.

However, the park is also a modern marvel—surrounded by some of the city’s leading restaurants, high-rise buildings and luxury shopping. Grab an iced coffee at one of the local cafes and spread out on your blanket to take in the laidback atmosphere in the park, popular with everyone from dog walkers to local office workers to artists, many of whom set up shop along the benches that sit in the park to paint or sketch the surroundings. From award-winning architectural marvels to the lush greenery that surrounds the many winding paths, the park offers a feast for the senses!

So lather on the sunscreen, grab your shades and head down the street to Rittenhouse Square Park to chill out before summer heads out of Philly!
