Philly has become a haven for pop-up beer gardens. From the
wildly popular city-sponsored traveling Parks on Tap to the many spring and
summer festivals featuring the city’s favorite brews, pop-up beer gardens are a
fun way to check out a new area, enjoy new drinks and make some new friends.
You can do all that and much more at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s
Pop-Up Garden, located just minutes from your 1500 Locust apartment.
The garden is open from spring to fall, offering locals free
access to a space that fuses garden, restaurant and bar—making for an
unforgettable outing! There are several PHS Pop-Up Gardens in the area,
including the South Street locale, four blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment.
Open seven days a week, the garden is decked out in unique plants and bushes
grown by the experts at PHS—giving it a floral feel that transports visitors
far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Guests are invited to take
pictures of the flowers, ask questions about them to PHS reps on site and find
out how to get involved with the organization.
Of course, there’s also a focus on food and drinks! The garden
features a full menu featuring pub grub like burgers, fries, chicken fingers,
salads and more. Or skip dinner and head right to the treats, with popcorn and
ice cream! A number of the cocktails are also on the sweeter side—with
offerings like the garden sangria, a “woodermelon” vodka concoction and the
Flower Power Sour. As a beer garden, there’s an emphasis on locally brewed
craft beers, with nearly 20 beers on tap and canned, representing some of the
area’s best breweries and cideries.
The garden features a laidback layout, with picnic tables
and comfy chairs—perfect for taking in the serene atmosphere with your snacks
and sips and whiling away a summer night with friends. Make sure to check out
the garden’s events website before your visit, as the space features a full
roster of special programming—from cocktail-making workshops to plant swaps to
Hope to see you there!
