Now that the holiday season has died down and the winter doldrums are upon us, you may be thinking there’s little to do out and about in Center City until the spring makes its return. Thankfully, Center City District Restaurant Week will change your mind!
From Jan. 13-25, hundreds of local restaurants, including many just steps from your 1500 Locust apartment, will create specialized three-course, prix-fixe menus. Lunches are $20 and dinners $35—offering a tremendous opportunity to experience some of Philly’s best fine-dining restaurants for less. If you really want to maximize your dollar, book a meal at one of the many BYOB restaurants, such as Russett.
The Rittenhouse Square eatery, two blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment, features a menu inspired by Italian and French flavors, with a strong focus on fresh and local ingredients. As such, its menu rotates daily, so there are sure to be some surprises on its Restaurant Week offerings! Some of its standout offerings include first-course selections like smoked trout and hand-cut pappardelle and second-course items such as a leg of lamb and grilled squash. All of Russett’s dishes come chockfull of perfectly prepared veggies that will have you feeling a little less guilty if you want to top of your meal with dessert. You should definitely do just that, as Russett’s sweet treats are all handmade daily and feature options like Grandma Jane’s Apple Cake and Spicy Chocolate Ice Cream. And since Russett is BYOB, bring along your favorite bottle of vino to make your meal extra special (and save even more dough!).
The ambiance at Russett is almost as enjoyable as its menu. The restaurant is housed in a brick townhouse that dates to 1877, offering a look back at Philadelphia history despite its forward-thinking menu. The dining room features a brilliantly restored archway and cavernous windows that overlook Spruce Street. The restaurant is lit by chandeliers and candles on each table, offering a cozy, quaint feel that is perfect for a chilly January night out.
So grab your date, your friends or your other favorite people and head out to see what Restaurant Week 2019 has to offer!
