Send Off Summer in Old City

Summer 2018 may be almost in the books—but you have a few more opportunities to hang onto the sights and especially the sounds of the season here in Philly.

Summer Sounds in the Historic District runs through Sept. 7 throughout Old City, 1.5 miles from your 1500 Locust apartment. The initiative has been running throughout the neighborhood since June in an effort to add a dose of arts and culture to an area already brimming with history. Throughout the summer, more than 50 musical acts have performed, offering a wide range of offerings from all genres, all completely free!

There are still a few events left before the bands pack up for the season. From 6-8 p.m. Sept. 1 and 8, Franklin Square, about one mile from your 1500 Locust apartment, finishes out the summer with Summer Sounds on the Square, featuring blues, rock and folk music. Who Got the Jazz takes over Independence Visitor Center, one mile from your 1500 Locust apartment, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 5 featuring master jazz and soul musicians taking on the classics. On Sept. 7, the Philadelphia History Museum, one mile from your 1500 Locust apartment, wraps up its We Got the Beat DJ Series featuring Kingspy and DJ Hvnlee.

The music series is an excellent opportunity to enjoy all that the city’s historic district has to offer. The area can often get congested with tourists and camp groups during the summer, but once September hits, the neighborhood gets back to business as usual. That means a September visit to the area’s public parks, museums and historical centers is a relaxing way to get to know the city better. Getting all that education and entertainment with a backdrop of award-winning musicians makes the deal even sweeter.

Philly is a town known for its history and also for its music—and at Summer Sounds in the Historic District you can enjoy both!
