‘Tis the Season for Giving at 1500 Locust

The holidays are upon us, and while tearing open presents to find new clothes and electronics can brighten anyone’s day, helping other people share that joy may be just as exciting. Philadelphia is home to thousands of families in need, and thankfully a number of organizations, including several right near your 1500 Locust apartment, have sprung into action to help make their holidays a bit more magical. Here are just a few ways you can give back to your community (and give yourself something to be proud of this holiday!).

Turning Points for Children: The family-services organization provides a range of support programs to assist struggling families and youth in need. This season, Turning Points is collecting pajamas, books and toys for youngsters six months-18 years. Drop off the donations at any of the organization’s locations, including its headquarters two blocks from your 1500 Locus apartment. The group is also looking for volunteers to help package gifts, and wrapping paper is always welcomed!

Valley Youth House: Valley Youth House, which provides housing and other resources to young people experiencing homelessness, distributes gifts to more than 1,000 young people in need every holiday season. The agency, located just two blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment, is in need of toys, winter coats and gift cards for teenagers and young adults. Donors can be matched with individual youth to see how impactful their gifts are.

Morris Animal Refuge: Furry friends also need love during the holidays! The animal-rescue organization, located four blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment, could use a number of items, including gently used blankets and dog and cat toys. While you’re there, check out their adoptable kitties and consider bringing one home for the holidays!
