Every year, hundreds of artists in the region harness their talent and creativity to stage thought-provoking, eye-opening productions that infuse new meaning into theater.
Fringe Festival takes over Philly Sept. 7-24, offering a wide range of performances, from the humorous to the heartbreaking, and everything in between. Shows are held in venues large and small — big city theaters and South Philly living rooms — around the region, including dozens right near your 1500 Locust apartment.
Here are just a few of the quirky yet quality productions coming our way for this year’s Fringe Festival:
Becoming Vegan — The Adrienne Theater, a half-mile from your 1500 Locust apartment, hosts this world-premiere musical comedy about two women, one of whom is hilariously trying to hide the fact that she’s not a true vegan.
Tubas for the People — Tubular, a cover band comprised entirely of tuba players, takes over Franky Bradley’s, two blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment.
Tongue & Groove Spontaneous Theater — This Fringe favorite returns for another string of improv-comedy shows at The Adrienne, a half-mile from your 1500 Locust apartment. The ensemble cast creates unique shows each night, based entirely on anonymous submissions from audience members.
Puppet-delphia Fringe Slam — It’s puppets like you’ve never before seen them! The Drake: Proscenium Theater, one block from your 1500 Locust Street apartment, hosts this risqué, adults-oriented, puppet-focused variety show.
Gorgeousity: The Army of Love and Art — Described as a “playromp for grownups,” Gorgeousity offers beer, snacks and the opportunity for visitors to explore their own artistic talents. The fun all happens at Philadelphia Ethical Society, three blocks from your 1500 Locust apartment.
