Old City Eats Makes Happy Hour Historic

After a wildly successful debut last summer, Old City Eats is returning to bring some history to your happy-hour celebrations.

Every Thursday through Aug. 31, find discounted drinks and dishes at 30 locales around Old City, about a mile from your 1500 Locust apartment. The effort launched last year to showcase the flourishing restaurant and nightlife scene in Old City, while highlighting the area’s many historic sites. Locals have taken advantage of the specials to check out new restaurants, while many tourists have stopped in for a bite or a drink in between visits to sites like Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House.

The menus at Old City Eats are just as varied as its clientele. Each will offer at least one half-priced appetizer and one $4 Penn Beer and $5 Faber Liquors cocktail from 5-8 p.m., but the rest of the Old City Eats menus are up to the individual locales.

At Buffalo Billiards, enjoy pub food like fried mozzarella, chips and salsa and chicken tenders. Go South of the border at Cuba Libre with the Tropical Chips featuring plantain and malanaga chips with black bean and roasted cauliflower hummus and salsa. If you’re looking to expand your cocktail repertoire, Karma Restaurant & Lounge has an adventurous list of summer-themed drinks like the Bombay Breeze, featuring rum, watermelon liquor and pineapple juice, and the Mango Martini, which includes vodka, mango nectar and Grenadine.

Old City Eats features up-scale fine-dining restaurants, corner bars and everything in between — offering locals and visitors alike a great way to see the city’s historic district in a whole new light.

There are only a few Thursdays left to catch the specials, so don’t miss out!
